How Do We Afford to Live with Only One Income

A friend of mine asked me how do I decide to take the bold step to become a SAHM and living on a single income. All of us have so many financial commitments; homeloan, car loan, insurance, fees, utilities, petrol etc. To me, I was in a way forced to resign and be a SAHM because my No.3 does not want other people to mind him and to send all 3 to nursery cost half of my salary that was less than 2.5k; so it is more practical to just resign and mind them myself.

We have to live by our means; meaning do away with luxuries and live a simple life. I know most parents work for their children education fund but not us. Let them find their way like we did. Our parents did not have any education fund for us but we still managed to graduate with a degree and get a good job.

As a SAHM, we can get some income if we can find the time to do so. As for me, I might not have the time to be a Wholesale Insurance agent but I learn some skill like sewing and managed to sell a few bags which is sufficient to invest in some books for my children. Knowledge can bring them further than money you know. ;)

Cheap Live Crabs

I so envy hubby. While he was in Pitas, he got the chance to eat fresh crabs and prawns till his heart content. It is because they are so cheap there. One kilo of live crabs only cost them RM6. Here we need to pay at least RM26 for a kilo! And hubby does not favor eating prawns but he can’t resist the prawns there; they are so fresh and juicy. Now I understand why some mommy bloggers will make yearly trip to Sabah just to indulge in their seafood. Then later whine about getting the best slimming pill in town to loose weight!

Gift from Sabah

Hubby called on the first night he was in KK, Sabah. He told me that he bought something for me from the night market there; it was a torchlight which cost only RM3. What??? Fly all the way there just to buy a small torchlight for me? Why do I need the torchlight for? If he buys their best acne products I don’t mind trying it out. Being someone who always gift practical gift, he is not being practical this time around. :P

Will This Be Our Last Meal Together?

Tomorrow, hubby will be flying to KK for a mission trip in Pitas. The children insisted that they want to have KFC for dinner. I pestered hubby to just bring them there before he leaves them for 4 days. KFC is hubby’s favorite fast food. But today, he did not order his usual dinner plate; he ate his mom’s homecooked meal instead. This is something unusual of him. He jokingly said that this is something out of the ordinary. Maybe this will be our last meal together. Throughout the dinner, we chatted about where to throw his cremated body and that he does not write any will yet! To him it was a joke but what if that is really our last meal???

Smoking in the Toilet

I think we are the only Cyber Cafe in town that does not permit smoking in our premises. We have a big “No Smoking” sign on the wall and another one in the toilet because we have customers smoking in the toilet. Even that, they ignore the sign and smoke in the toilet. Even after hubby scolded him, he will still repeat it again after a while. I think arh, we must change the sign to osha signs - DANGER! No Smoking. Let them have the idea that the toilet will explode if the smoke in there.

No More Itchy Legs

Thanks to the purple boots, I no longer suffers from itchy legs which might turn into eczema if I did not do something about it. Now, each time when I need to go hang my laundry and bring them in, I will surely wear the purple boots to protect my legs from the grasses and weeds which grow at the laundry ground. I hope soon, hubby will be able to cement that whole area then no more wearing purple boots for me unless I need to visit the farm.

Eating Every 2 Hours

I have a small tummy. Hmmm…maybe I have trained my tummy since varsity days to eat small portion as to reduce spending much on food. Since then, I can’t eat much BUT I get hungry very fast. At times, I will eat every 2 hourly. Sometimes, I will eat healthily. Sometimes, I will just grab whatever I can find on the table or in the fridge. But recently, the food that I am taking can guarantee that I will be a fat pig in a few months time. Not sure whether hydroxycut can help me become a skinny praying mantis again. hehehe.

Tummy Bound

In order to reduce his backache and instead of taking the best weight loss supplements to shed some extra fat on his body, he is using my tummy trimmer which I use to bound my tummy after giving birth. It helps him to sit up straight and eat lesser. True you know that a good postures is very important to eliminate backaches. So, when your mommy nags you to sit up straight, don’t whine; just do it. :P

“Spare Tyre” Causes Backache

Hubby has a bigger tummy now. He still can’t figure out what causes it. He was even tempted to try out one of the top ten diet pills to loose that “spare tyre” but he chickened out.

Now he is suffering backache and he is blaming it on that “spare tyre”. Could it be that the extra weight pushing on his backbones? Just like when a pregnant lady often have backaches during her last trimester.

Cyber Cafe Close on Sunday

After the 1st year of our Cyber Cafe business, we stopped operating on Sunday. We finally realised that business comes from God and we must put Him first in everything that we do. Even it means to close on the busiest day of the week to honor His day. By faith we did that and true enough, when we honor God, He blessed us! Our sales pick up since then. Halleluyah!

Anyway, even after 3 years not operating on Sunday, hubby still receives text message asking whether the shop is open or not. Most of the time by student who needs to complete their assignment, install document scanning software, or those having problems with their laptop.
